Banana Bay Tour Company runs a sunset cruise that departs from Rumrunner’s Restaurant dockside at Cape Harbour one hour before sunset every Friday. If you’re in need of a reminder as to why you moved to Southwest Florida in the first place, you may want to book yourself a passage on this two hour tour. You’ll learn about the local tidal ecosystems, see a beautiful sunset, and head back home with a new appreciation for Cape Coral and the wildness surrounding it.
This isn’t your run of the mill South Florida sunset cruise with hors d’oeuvres and a mediocre solo-musician murdering Jimmy Buffett tunes. This is a sunset cruise with more of an ecological bent. Banana Bay Tour Company is a member of the Society for Ethical Ecotourism of Southwest Florida. There’s no music, but there’s plenty of opportunity to learn more about the flux and pulse of nature.

Great dolphin tour and very interesting tour we learned a lot. The staff was knowledgeable and great!! Do this tour!
We are a family of 7 with children whose ages range from 11 down to infant. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the captain (J.R.) and crew of this boat went above and beyond to make sure our experience was not only pleasurable, but also memorable. We not only saw dolphins, but a TON of other wildlife. The crew made sure to point out to all of us anytime there was something worth noting in our sights. The boat was turned off any time wildlife was in our path so as to respect the animals.
The captain was funny, knowledgeable, patient (with our restless brood), witty, and helpful. He kept our children engaged on this lengthy boat excursion, many times during our outing he would ask our children by name a question, or he would ask for their help with something to keep them engaged. He went so far as to allow each one of them to sit in the captains chair up deck and actually steer the boat with him. Each child got about 10 minutes in the spotlight and I watched as a proud mama from below and was amazed that not only were they allowed to help steer, but he was teaching them along the way! This was a highlight for our little ones. We felt so pampered!
It was hard to believe that the captain does this all day long, all week long and all year long. I certainly felt that we were his one and only group of passengers he made it that unique and special to us. He even asked if we would like a bit more time sightseeing and took us for an extra hour out to see more wildlife! Oh and they even provided me a gluten free lunch with gluten free bread and all! Impressive!
Out of all of the things we did the tour was fantastic, we saw a more dolphins than we thought we would see and the sunset was amazing. Would definitely recommend this tour.
Me and my family took this tour while visiting South Florida. We heard about this tour from some locals and I’m glad we listened. The captain was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. The kids had a blast and loved seeing all the dolphins and the birds. I would highly recommend this to all families looking for a fun time.
